Weather isn’t an issue when it comes to being active in Dorchester. The Flight Exec Centre recreational facility services the community. They have an indoor walking track, fitness centre, gymnasium, and two rinks which have public skating starting in the fall as well as other team ice sports throughout the year. The Flight Exec Centre is also the home arena of the Provincial Junior Hockey League team, Dorchester Dolphins.

has constructed a new outdoor recreation centre complex at 3245 Hamilton Rd. The new recreation centre has a top notch lit Baseball Diamond, three full size soccer pitches, two mini-pitches, a pond, a proposed clubhouse, washroom facilities and batting cages!

Home of The Great Lake Canadians program, designed to provide an elite-level team with high-level competition, led by current and former professional baseball players.

There are three elementary schools in the town. River Heights Public school goes from JK to grade 3, where students then transfer to Northdale Central Public School from grade 4 to 8. The third elementary school is St. David’s Catholic school which is JK to grade 8. For high school, there is Lord Dorchester Secondary School.

There are 9 different trails in Dorchester: Harry Small Trail, Weaver Trail, Mill Pond Trail, Community Park Trail, Valleyview Too Trail, Upper Mill Pond Trail, Lions Train, Ross Abe Trail, and Two Schools Trail. Some of the trails are more urban while others surround you with nature.

The Dorchester Mill Pond is located on Dorchester Creek, just metres away from the Thames River in the Village of Dorchester.

The pond, in a natural setting of white oak, white pine and maple, is tranquil and changes from season to season providing excellent subject matter for photographers. Visitors may wish to simply enjoy the view looking south from the dam which was reconstructed in 2005 or enjoy a quiet walk in the cool shade. The century old pond and dam provide a setting for quiet enjoyment.

The pond and surrounding area offers a diverse collection of flora and fauna. The trees, which include black cherry and white oak, offer a home to many different species of birds. Lower lying shrubs such as raspberry bushes and dogwoods support various mammals including cottontails, raccoons and white tail deer. The pond itself, which boasts beautiful yellow water lilies, is inhabited by waterfowl, turtles, bass and even some beaver – a rarity in southwestern Ontario.
